Biography
Nicholas Coombes is a Liberal Democrat Councillor representing Bathwick to Bath & North East Somerset Council. He was elected in May 2007 with Cllr Armand Edwards.
Nicholas was born in 1986 and attended school in Kent, where his parents still live. In 2004 he moved to Bath to study a BSc in Architecture at Bath University. He is likely to be fully qualified, following a Masters Degree and RIBA professional exams by 2011 at the earliest.
He joined the Liberal Democrat Society at university and has served two terms as society Chair. Although he has held some Student Union elected positions, he is not heavily involved in Union politics. Nicholas is also a member of the One World ethical & environmental group and Amnesty plus the University Choir.
Nicholas is a Grade 8 classical pianist, enjoying Beethoven and other early Romantic composers. He has played once in a Holburne Museum recital and hopes to do so again in the future. As a singer he is a bass, thus is continually surprised and irritated by the pitch of his voice on local radio.
On the council his interests include architecture & the built environment, city planning, sustainability, the environment, student integration and history & culture. He sits on the Regulatory (Access) Committee which is a quasi-judicial committee responsible for designating public rights of way.
He and colleague Cllr Edwards are friends who share their ward duties, both running the public surgeries. Bathwick will next be contested in BathNES wide elections in 2011.
